Richard Foley (politician)

Richard Foley (19 February 1681 – 27 March 1732) was an English lawyer and Member of Parliament (MP). [1]

He was son of Thomas Foley (c. 1641–1701) of Witley Court, Worcestershire and thus a grandson of the ironmaster Thomas Foley (1616–1677). His elder brothers were Thomas Foley, 1st Baron Foley (1673–1733) and Edward Foley (1676–1747). He was educated in the law at Lincoln's Inn (1695), called to the bar in 1702 and made a bencher in 1726.

He was second prothonotary at the Court of Common Pleas from 1703 until his death. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society in 1708, but withdrew in 1712. [2]

He was elected MP for the Borough of Droitwich, sitting from 1711 to 1732, being both preceded and succeeded in the seat by his brother Edward.

He died unmarried without issue in 1732.
