Richard Bulkeley, 5th Viscount Bulkeley

Richard Bulkeley, 5th Viscount Bulkeley (8 April 1707/08 – 15 March 1738/39)[1] was a Welsh politician and peer.

Bulkeley was the eldest son of Richard Bulkeley, 4th Viscount Bulkeley and Bridget, daughter of James Bertie, 1st Earl of Abingdon.[2] He succeeded as Viscount Bulkeley on his father's death in 1724.

Career and family

Bulkeley was elected Member of Parliament for Beaumaris in 1730 and would hold the office until his death. A Tory like his father, he constantly voted against the Whig government of Robert Walpole.[3] Richard Bulkeley held the office of Chamberlain of North Wales and was Constable of Beaumaris castle from 1725 until his death.[3]

He married Jane, daughter and heiress of Lewis Owen of Peniarth, Merionethshire on 12 January 1732. They had no children.
