Rheum rhaponticum

Rheum rhaponticum, the false rhubarb, rhapontic rhubarb or rhapontic, is a plant species found in the wild in the genus Rheum.[1]

Hyperoside, the 3-O-galactoside of quercetin, can be found in R. rhaponticum, where it serves as a UV blocker found in the bracts. It also contains natural hydroxystilbene compounds rhaponticin and desoxyrhaponticin which exerts estrogen like effects in humans (SERM = Selective estrogen receptor modulator).[2] Rheum rhaponticum root extract is traditionally used for menopausal relief in Germany. Recent clinical studies showed improvement in menopause and perimenopause symptoms and safety surveillance study showed that it is safe for consumption.[3][4][5][6][7]
