The Return of the Obra Dinn is an upcoming video game by Lucas Pope. The game is set aboard a fictional East India Company ship whose crew and passengers have all mysteriously died, with the game's objective being to discover how. The game was Pope's third commercial game project, following Papers, Please and The Republia Times, and runs on the Unity game engine.[1]

Plot

In 1802, the ship Obra Dinn goes missing and washes up in port in 1807. The game is set in the point-of-view of an insurance adjuster for the East India Company with the help of the "Momento Mortem", a device that flashes the player back to a crewman's death and the crew muster roll book. The objective of the game is to discover the fates of all 60 crew members, with many missing or dead.[1] To fill out the roll book, players must write a sentence explaining if they are alive, dead, or simply missing.[2] The game starts with only one corpse and no doors open, to unlock doors and corpses then you must use the Momento Mortem to flash back to areas where the doors are open.[2]
