René Dekker is an interior designer based in London, England.

Dutch-born Dekker got his start in the interior design world while living in Cape Town, South Africa where he went to school.

He has been featured in several publications, including the Andrew Martin Design Review, The Interior Designer's Handbook and more.

Career

Dekker developed a passion for interior design from an early age and after graduation worked as an independent designer. He practiced his skills for several years in South Africa until he moved to the UK in 1999. He soon started to work alongside noted UK designers until he decided to join the architectural practice 'SHH' in 2005.[1]

In July 2012, Dekker launched an interior design studio located in Battersea, called Rene Dekker Design Limited, where he currently serves as Creative Director.[2]

Dekker has been actively involved in the BIID (British Institute of Interior Design), where he spends time as part of the Exhibitions team helping to raise the profile of the institute at various events.[3]

In a recent design project, Dekker was asked to help design M Restaurant's new location near Victoria station in London.[4]

Recognition

He has received recognition for his work all over the world, both as an individual[5] and as part of a design firm. In 2014, he was listed by Country & Town House as #16 in their "The 50 Best Interior Designers in the UK" publication.[6]

Also in 2014, Dekker was asked to design a line of brassware ranges for Burlington Bathrooms, yet another major success for the famous designer.[7]

Other recent accolades include being a finalist in the KBB Review Design Awards 2016 for Bathroom Designer of the Year for his Kensington Flat project and West London Apartment project. In 2015, he won the KBB Review Design Award for Bathroom Designer of the Year for his Central London Apartment. His Central London apartment project is currently nominated for an award by the SBID (Society of British and International Design).[8]
