Real Gangsters is a 2013 Canadian crime drama film written and directed by Frank D'Angelo. It is D'Angelo's directorial debut.[1][2]

Plot

Real Gangsters follows a successful New York crime family, the Lo Giacamo family. The two cousins, Vincent and Jack are the ones controlling and maintaining the families’ business ventures. Vincent and Jack have very different ways of operating their endeavours. Vincent is always trying to find common ground with other associates and tries to keep the peace while maintaining the families’ success. Jack, on the other hand, uses his hot temper when making his decisions. The cousins find that their different mindsets and strategies don’t always make for a great combination.

The way Jack enforces his code of duty sometimes destroys Vincent’s creative plan. Jack also finds himself protecting the underdogs in which often causes him more trouble than good. Vincent makes deals with rivals in hopes of building the families’ success. This makes Jack crazy; he cant stand the idea of dealing with rival crime families. Even though they may disagree sometimes, the cousins are able to keep business booming. Jack is accompanied by his two faithful associates Frankie D’Cecco (Mike Pare) and Cacciatore (Robert Mangiardi).

Frankie and Cacciatore, Jack’s right hand men, are quick to follow his demands. Jack looks to his advice from his great Uncle Gaetano (Robert Loggia) during their weekly meetings[3]. Uncle Gaetano is a survivor of the early gangster generations with valuable knowledge and wisdom. Uncle Gaetano is the only person Jack trusts because of the valuable advice he gives him. Jack truly lives by the advice given to him by his uncle. Big Nick Salens (Steven Bauer) runs the biker gangs across the state for the family. A powerful businessman, Nick personally oversees all of the family's operations. He owes his own success to the family as they have helped him along the way. [4].

Detective Ted Roberts (John Savage) is the FBI undercover agent keeping tabs on Jack. He has no problem getting in Jack’s face to let him know he’s around. Surprisingly Ted Roberts and Vincent have made a friendship over the years based on common decency and respect for each other. This friendship irritates Jack no end [5].
