Raymond Le Corre (1933-2014) was a Général de division of the French Army and Commandant of the French Foreign Legion.[1]

Military career

Admitted to the EMIA on October 1953, in quality of a Saint-Cyrien. He was nominated sous-lieutenant on October 1, 1955.

After the school of application at the armored cavalry corps, he was assigned to the 2nd Saphis Regiment (French: 2e Régiment de Saphis) in Morocco with the rank of lieutenant, on October 1957. He assumed the function of platoon chief until August 1959.

Designated on January 1960 to serve in Algeria, he joined the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment 1er REC as platoon chief until November 1962.

Following, he joined the technical and scientific superior military teaching in quality of a candidate until May 1966.

He was promoted to the rank of captain, on January 1, 1963.

From July 1966 to June 1968, he commanded the 3rd squadron of the 1st Foreign Cavalry Regiment 1er REC.

Experimental office at the technical section of the army until 1971, he was promoted to the rank of chef d'escadron on July 1, 1970.

He was designated later as an candidate of the 85th promotion of the superior war school.

From August 1, 1973 until August 1, 1975, he was assigned to the general staff headquarters of the 1st Army Corps in quality of a chief of study planning section.

On August 1975, he was assigned to the 6th Cuirassiers Regiment(French: 6e Régiment Cuirassiers) as second in command.

He was promoted to the rank of lieutenant-colonel, on June 1, 1976.

From September 1977 to September 1979, he commanded the 1er REC at Orange. Following which, he joined the general staff headquarters of the Armed Forces in quality as an editor at the planning section. Since arrival, he was promoted to the rank of colonel, on October 1.

On July 10, 1981, he joined the Foreign Legion Groupment GLE and the 31st Brigade in quality of assistant Général.

In July 1984, the GLE became the COMLE.

In November 1985, he was assigned to the general staff headquarters of the 10th Armored Division.

He was admitted to the 1st section of officers generals, January 1, 1986.

On July 1, 1988, he assumed command of the French Foreign Legion.

He was promoted to Général de division, on September 1, 1990.

Raymond Le Corre died on January 23, 2014.
