Ray is a given name and a family surname. In Anglo-Norman England, the name derived from the Norman word rey, roy meaning "king".[1] Occasionally this was used as a personal name. It also appears in Scottish, a reduced and altered form of McRae. In India, Ray is a surname generally given as a historical title of honour in India conferred by the British Raj. [2][3]
