Rawatbhata is a city, Tehsil and a Nager Palika in Chittorgarh district of Rajasthan. It is 50 km from the nearest city Kota. The city has 8 Nuclear Power Stations, an upcoming Nuclear Fuel Complex and a Heavy Water Plant. Rawatbhata also has one of the biggest dams in Rajasthan, Rana Paratap Sagar, which is built on river Chambal. The dam is equipped with a 172 MW Hydel Power Station

Geography

Rawatbhata is Located At 24°56′N 75°35′E / 24.93°N 75.58°E / 24.93; 75.58.[2] It Has An Average Elevation of 325 Metres (1066 Feet).

Demographics

As of the India census,[3] Rawatbhata had a Population of 37,701. Males Constitute 51.8% of the Population and Females 48.2%. Rawatbhata has a literacy rate of 85.82%, higher than the national literacy rate of 74.04%: male literacy is 92.19%, and female literacy is 79.01%. In Rawatbhata, 12.27% of the population is under 6 years of age. This place is culturally blessed because people from all over the country and from various communities and religion live here.

In the 1960s, due to the location of this remote place on Chambal River and least resistance by local tribal communities, this place was chosen for building nuclear power plants with support from Canadian-Based AECL.

Rana Pratap Sagar Dam

Rana Pratap Sagar Dam on Chambal River is located near the town. The dam has power generation capability. It also supports a road connecting Rawatbhata to a nearby township,Vikram Nagar located on a small hill. On the top of the hill there is a large metal statue of Maharana Pratap, which is a viewpoint over the city.

The Rana pratap sagar dam or the RPS dam as it is called is one among the four consequent dams constructed on the chambal river which are namely Gandhi sagar dam, Rana pratap sagar dam(RPS), Jawahar sagar dam and the Kota barrage, former 3 have electricity generation capacity while Kota barrage is for irrigation purpose

The Rana pratap sagar dam facilitates fishing activities in its nearby villages and is also responsible for giving water to the Rajasthan Atomic Power Plant for generation of electricity

Bhainsrorgarh Wildlife Sanctuary

Bhainsrodgarh Wildlife Sanctuary, An Exquisite Habitat For Wildlife Animals, Was Declared As a Sanctuary in 1983. The Sanctuary is Located At The Small Village, Situated At The Convergence of Chambal And Bemany Rivers. The Village is Enclosed in An Ancient Fort. Its a Wildlife Sanctuary Located At Saddle Dam Rawatbhata Chittorgarh. Have a 229.14 sq. k.m Area. You See Wild Animals And Natural Surroundings. The Principal Species Are Dhokra And Khair. Other Species Include Babool, Ber, Salar, Khirni etc. The fauna includes: Panther, Wild Boar, Chinkara, Fox, Four Horned Antelope, Civet Hyena, The Sambhar, The Cheetal, Chinkara, Jackal, Crocodiles Etc. Flora are Dhok, Salar, Churel, Butea. Many migratory birds are also spotted during the season.

Rajasthan Atomic Power Station

The Rajasthan Atomic Power Project (RAPP) is Located in Rawatbhata in The North Indian State of Rajasthan. It currently has six Pressurised Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) Units Operating with a total Installed capacity of 1,180MW.

The Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL), The Operator of The Plant, is Increasing The Existing Capacity of The Plant By Constructing Two More Reactors Known As Units 7 and 8 (2X700=1400MW)

"The Two PHWR Reactors Will Increase The Current Capacity of The Plant By 1,400MW."

The First Pour of Concrete (FPC) For The Units-7 Reactor Of 700MW Capacity Was Achieved in July 2011. The Reactor is Scheduled To Be Completed in 2022

The An Units-8 Reactor, Which is Also of 700MW Capacity, is Expected To Be Completed by 2023. The Two PHWR Reactors Will Increase The Current Capacity of The Plant By 1,400MW, of Which 700MW Be Allocated To The State of Rajasthan

Nuclear Fuel Complex\Project

Nuclear Fuel Complex(Department Of Atomic Energy, DAE)At Rawatbhata,Rajasthan About The Project Nuclear Fuel Complex, Hyderabad is Setting Up a Green-Field Project (NFC-Rawatbhata) at Rawatbhata, Chittorgarh District, Rajasthan. This Plant Will Meet The Fuel Requirements of 4 No’s of 700 MWe PHWR Reactors Planned at Rawatbhata, Rajasthan And Kakrapara, Gujarat. The Upcoming Nuclear Fuel Complex is Spread Over 190 Hectares Located on The Banks of Rana Pratap Sagar, Besides HWP-Rawatbhata. This Plant is Designed to Produce 500Tonnes of 37 Element PHWR Fuel Bundles Per Year. The Project Has Received Environmental Clearance From MoEF(Ministry of Environment and Forest) in The Month of January’ 2014, Financial Clearance From The Union Cabinet in March’ 2014 With a Sanctioned Cost of INR2,400 Crores And Siting Clearance from AERB in May’ 2014. And The Construction Will Be Started in 2017

Kalakhet and RAPP / HWP Colonies

A nearby orchard Kalakhet is a place worth visiting. The town is located in the lap of Aravallis. The colonies of the RAPP and HWP are well developed namely Vikram Nagar Township, Anu Asha, Anu Deep, Anu Chaya, Anu Kiran, Anu Pratap, Anu Tara and ANU BHAGYA respectively.[4]

Heavy Water Plant

Heavy Water Plant (Under Heavy Water Board, Department Of Atomic Energy DAE ) at Rawatbhat is Indigenously Built And is Based on The Bithermal H20-H2S Exchange Process. The Plant is Located at a Distance of 65 km From Kota Railway Station, Adjacent To Rajasthan Atomic Power Plant (RAPP). The Heavy Water Plant is Integrated With RAPP For its Supply of Power And Steam.An Oil Fired Steam Generation Plant is Also Added To Ensure Uninterrupted Supply Of Steam During The Shut Down Periods of RAPP.Water From The Nearby Rana Pratap Sagar lake, Purified of Suspended And Dissolved Impurities Forms The Process Feed With The D20.

Parajhar

Parajhar is a nearby waterfall. The underground water flowing in caves has carved statues and figures on the stones in the cave. Many people have died due accidents near the waterfall. It is near to village called Parajhar gaon. This place is also known for historic cave-temple of Lord Shiv. During Mahashivratri a large festival is organised here. water-fall and green surrounding is the attraction for peoples.

Saddle Dam

Saddle dam is a non-gated stone and mud dam to direct the water towards the main Rana pratap sagar dam and away from some villages, the catchment area of this dam fosters crocodiles and alligators.
