Rashida Manjoo

Rashida Manjoo was the United Nations' Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women from June 2009 to July 2015.[1][2] She was succeeded by Dr. Dubravka Šimonović.[3]

Manjoo's reporting included, in July 2014, examining the "environment of impunity" regarding violence against women and girls in Honduras.[4] In April that year she criticized the UK for its "boys' club sexist culture" and "negative and over-sexualised portrayals of women".[5][6]

A South African national, Manjoo is a professor in the Department of Public Law at the University of Cape Town.[7] She previously served as the Parliamentary commissioner on South Africa's Commission on Gender Equality, the Des Lee Distinguished Visiting Professor at Webster University, and the Eleanor Roosevelt Fellow with Harvard Law School's Human Rights Program.[2]
