Raoul Petretta (born 24 March 1997) is an Italian professional footballer who plays as a defender for FC Basel in the Swiss Super League.

Club career

Born in Rheinfelden, Germany, Petretta started his youth football with Basel in 2005. He played in their U-15, U-16, U-17 and U-18 teams and in July 2015 he moved to their U-21 team. He played 24 games, scoring one goal, in his first season and played 14 games during the first half of the next season, before he signed a three and a half year professional contract on 16 February 2017 and joined their first team.[1]

He played his debut in their first team on 2 April 2017 in St. Jakob-Park during the 4–0 home win against Lugano. Under trainer Urs Fischer Petretta played 5 League games and won the Swiss Super League championship at the end of the 2016–17 Super League season. For the club this was the eighth title in a row and their 20th championship title in total.[2] They also won the Swiss Cup for the twelfth time, which meant they had won the double for the sixth time in the clubs history.[3]

International career

On 25 May 2018 he made his debut with the Italy U21 team in a friendly match lost 3–2 against Portugal.
