Rao Dharampal Singh (born 2 April 1942) is an Indian politician and leader of the Indian National Congress. He was elected M.L.A.[2] thrice from Sohna – 60 assembly Constituency in 1987, 1991 & 2000 and is now the MLA[3] from Badshahpur. He was a Minister in Haryana Govt. for a full term from 1991 to 1996.

He has been Vice President of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee since 1997. He was appointed chairman by the Ch. Bhupinder Singh Hooda Govt. of Haryana Pradesh Congress committee OBC cell of Haryana. A proposal of constituting an OBC Cell was also passed with the approval of Sonia Gandhi which was decided to lead by Rao Dharampal, MLA.[4]

Early life

He was born at village Sirhol, a small village in Gurgaon District of South Haryana. His father, Sh. Maha Ram Yadav, was a freedom fighter and had served for years with Sh. Subhash Chandra Bose in Indian National Army.

He completed his B.A. degree in Arts and completed a Diploma in Automobiles. He took over the fledgling family business and mixed social work with the business.

He was jailed with Indira Gandhi in 1978 during the famous Jail Bharo Andolan in 1978.

Political career

His political career started in 1987[2] when after being denied an assembly ticket from Sohna by Congress party, which he now represents, Rao Dharampal decided to contest as an independent against the sitting Congress MLA and won. However he joined Indian National Congress in 1991 when it offered him the ticket. He participated in Indian general election, 2014 (Haryana) on behalf of INC and became the part of Gurgaon (Lok Sabha constituency).

Besides all the above he has been actively participating in social activities associated with "Indira Gandhi Children holiday Home" at Damdama and is a member of Lion’s and Rotary Clubs.

Personal life

Rao Dharampal married to Smt. Vidya Devi in 1963. They have four children Virender Yadav,[5] Surander Yadav, Geeta Yadav and Sarita Yadav.
