Randy Lipscher

Randolph B. "Randy" Lipscher (born September 20, 1960) is an American former Olympic field hockey goalie.[1][2]

Early life

Lipscher was born in Boston, Massachusetts, lived in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, and is Jewish.[1][3][4] He attended Carnegie Mellon University, and studied biochemistry at Rutgers University.[1] He is 5-10 (178 cm) tall, and weighs 174 lbs (79 kg).[1] Sports Illustrated called him "the Jewish street hockey player from New Jersey."[5]

Career

Lipscher first played for the Fair Lawn, New Jersey, Flyers, a street hockey team.[6][7] He discovered field hockey, and played for eight years with the North Jersey Hockey Club, in Peapack-Gladstone.[1]

He was on the national junior team from 1978-81.[1] Lipscher was a US national member from 1982-84.[1]

Lipscher made Team USA, representing the United States at the 1984 Summer Olympics in field hockey as goal keeper.[1][8][9][10]

Lipscher played for one year with the Springfield Hockey Club in Preston, England.[1]
