Rainhill High School

Rainhill High School is an 11-18 comprehensive secondary school in Rainhill, Merseyside, England. The school is the official Liverpool FC Academy Education Centre in Merseyside for under-18 players to be educated. Notable former pupils from the academy include Raheem Sterling and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Present day

The school chose to convert to become an Academy in March 2017. It is the lead school in the Stephenson Trust. In addition to Liverpool FC, it has formal partnerships with Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts, Liverpool John Moores University, Warwick University and Leeds University.

Every year the school received in excess of 600 applications for entry into Year 7. The school has responded to its significant popularity by increasing its pupil admission number, from September 2017, from 240 entry into Year 7 to 300. By September 2021, there will be 1,500 11-16 year olds plus the Sixth Form students on the site.

There is a strong academic curriculum that reflects the high number of high performing students at the school. Students can choose from over 20 GCSEs. There are different pathways at GCSE, and also at Key Stage 3 to reflect the needs of different students. Visual and Performing Arts, as well as PE are particular strengths of the school. This is reflected in excellent exam results as well as the array of curricular enrichment activities.

The Rainhill Experience is a unique programme for the young pupils that develops life skills for the 21st century.

Rainhill Sixth Form Centre is also very popular. It offers a range of academic ‘facilitating’ A levels, plus applied general qualifications. Most students progress from the Sixth Form to universities, many to Russell Group universities.

The school has excellent relationships with parents of their students as well as the local community.

Academic performance.

Students at Rainhill consistently produce very good examination results that is well above national averages. This is the case for 16 and 18 year olds.

In 2018, 72% achieved grades 9-4 including English and Maths, which 26% achieved grades 9-7 including English and Maths.

A level results at A*-B, A*-E are consistently above national averages.

In the last 12 years the school has won many national awards for the quality of its exam results. Including being named in the Sectary of State’s Top100 schools for value added results between primary school and GCSE, and being in the top 10% of value added nationally for A levels.
