Raghavan Seetharaman

Dr. Raghavan Seetharaman is the Group CEO of Doha Bank (DSM:DHBK).[1][2] Set up in 1978, Doha Bank is one of the largest commercial banks in Qatar.[3][4] In 2015, business magazine Forbes ranked Seetharaman 6th in the Forbes’ Top Indian Leaders in the Arab World 2015 list.[5]

Early life and education

Dr. Seetharaman was born and raised in India. He is a Chartered Accountant and holds certificate in IT systems and Corporate Management, whilst being a Gold medallist in his graduation Bachelor of Commerce from University of Madras.[6]

Career

Seetharaman started his career at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), one of the four largest professional services networks. In 2002, he became Deputy CEO for Doha Bank. Seetharaman was named CEO in September 2007.[12] Since then, he has overseen the bank’s expansion from its base in Qatar to the UAE, India,[13] Singapore and China, among others.[14][15][16]

Major awards and honors

Seetharaman has consistently received awards for his contributions in the banking industry.[17][18] He was personally awarded the 2009 Lifetime Achievement Award by Indian Ministry of External Affairs,[19] 2010 International Indian of the Year Award from Indian Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, 2011 Kalaimamani Award from Tamil Nadu State Government and The Phenomenal Banker Achievers Excellence Award from the President of Mauritius among others.[20]

  • 2017- The Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award 2017 for Business Management. (PBSA) is the highest honour conferred on overseas Indians. PBSA is conferred by the Hon’ble President of India.[21]
  • 2016- Green Economy Visionary Award for his contribution in environment-friendly activities and thereby promoting green economy for nearly two decades.

  • 2014- ABLF Business Economist Award at the Asia Business Leadership Forum[23]
  • 2014- Gold Stevie Award for Executive of the Year at the Stevie Awards[24]
  • 2012- Doctor of Civil Laws of Honoris Causa, European University[25]
  • 2012- Honorary Degree, Doctor of Laws, Washington College[26]
