Rafique Ul Huq (born 2 November 1935)[1] is a Bangladeshi lawyer and a former Attorney General of Bangladesh.[2]

Early life and education

Huq was born in Calcutta on 2 November 1935 to Momin Ul Huq.[1] He earned his MA and LLB degrees from Calcutta University in 1957 and 1958 respectively.[2] He became a Barrister-at-Law in 1961 and called to the Lincoln's Inn in 1962.[2]

Career

Huq enrolled as an advocate in Calcutta High Court in 1960.[1] He joined High Court at Dhaka in 1962 and enrolled as an advocate in Supreme Court of Pakistan in 1965. In 1975, he joined as a senior advocate in Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.[1] He was appointed as the Attorney General of Bangladesh in 1990.[2]

Huq served as the counsel of the then Bangladesh Awami League President Sheikh Hasina and Bangladesh National Party Chairperson Khaleda Zia when they were charged for corruption cases during 2006–08 Bangladeshi political crisis.[3]
