During the WWII, when Japan invaded China, all the teachers and students in Guangzhou Pui Ching had to move to Macau in order to flee from the war in 1938. Since then, the Macau school started. Kathryn H. History

After World War II

The establishment of Macau Pui Ching Middle School can be seen as the consequence of WWII, or the Sino-Japanese War, when Macau had been a shelter for the teachers and students fleed from Guangzhou and Hong Kong. In the Post-war period, when most of the teachers and students returned to their original city, Pui Ching decided to maintain its branch in Macau to provide education to teenagers. Ms. Chiu Peck Lan, wife of the late Principal Wong Kai Meng, acted as Supervisor in Macau branch. Initially, the branch was a primary school until the junior high school and senior high school started in 1947 and 1953 respectively. It was remarkable that the branch renamed "Pui Ching Middle School Macau" in 1950, and became a completely non-profit private grammar school independently, while remained connections with its sister school in Guangzhou and Hong Kong.

Pui Ching rented The Lou's Garden (also known as: Lou Lim Ieoc Garden) as its campus from 1938 to 1952. Sponsored by Mr. Ho Yin (Chinese: 何賢) and Mr. Chong Chi Kwong, parents of Pui Ching students, nearly half part of The Lou's Garden was purchased to be the permanent site of the school in 1952. Several blocks of building were built as classrooms afterwards and the school keep on innovating until now. Curriculum and academic performance

Pui Ching Middle School is one of the leading school in Macau, reflecting by the students excellent academic performances regionally or even internationally. It has long been a tradition that Pui Ching does not only focus on the students' academic performances but also values the students' moral performances as a crucial part in their school life.

Pui Ching, like other schools in Macau, follows the “Curriculum Framework for Formal Education of Local Education System” and “The Requirements of Basic Academic Attainments” (BAA hereafter) that were authorised by Macau government in 2014 and 2017 respectively. However, Pui Ching is autonomous in the selection of textbook, decision of what to teach in different educational stages, or even the depth and difficulties of various teaching contents, under the Curriculum Framework and BAA, as other schools do so as well.

Pui Ching obtains a relatively high reputation in its success of S.T.E.A.M. education among schools in Pearl River Delta. The idea of S.T.E.M. has been proposed in Western countries for many years which emphasises the education of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Pui Ching elaborates the idea by adding an "A" on it, i.e. from S.T.E.M. to S.T.E.A.M. reflecting the role of Arts for students' fully development.

(below need to be rewritten later, for some major corrections and fact-check)

Circa the 1990s/2000s the school focused on preparing the students for university admittance in foreign countries since there was not enough space in the University of Macau to accommodate all of the Macau students who wished to study there. As a result, the students had large course loads. As of that period more than 90% of the school's graduates moved on to tertiary academic institutions.[5]

Circa 2009 Clayton stated that the school was known for making its students learn about the history of Macau a creative manner,[2] but it did not directly teach such history.[5] Chan Jileung (陳子良) and Wong Chao Son (黃就順), Pui Ching history and geography teachers,[2] cited several reasons: the lack of a textbook about Macau history,[6] the fact that such knowledge did not factor into the admissions processes of foreign universities, the already high course loads faced by students, and political sensitivities.[5]
