Promode Mankin (18 July 1938 – 11 May 2016) was a Bangladeshi Awami League politician and State Minister of Social Welfare Affairs.[1] He was the first Catholic and first member of the country's among Christian community to become a government minister in Bangladesh. Later, his son, Jewel Areng, elected MP after his death in his constituency.[2]
Biography
Mankin was born on 18 July 1938 in Mymensingh, Bangladesh. He joined Awami League in 1991. He was the President of Bangladesh Christian Association.[2] He was elected Member of Parliament from Mymensingh-1 four times.[3] He was a member of the Garo Indigenous Community. He fought in the Bangladesh liberation war.[4] His father was Megha Tozu and mother was Hridoy Cecelia Mankin.
On January 29, 1964 he married Momota Areng. They had five daughters and one son.[5] He died on 11 May 2016 at Holy Family Hospital in Mumbai, India.[6]
