The bicolor butterflyfish, Prognathodes dichrous, is a species of butterflyfish found in the vicinity of some remote islands in the mid-Atlantic. It is also known as the bastard cunningfish and the hedgehog butterflyfish.

Habitat and range

The bastard cunningfish is limited to the two islands of Saint Helena and Ascension in the mid-Atlantic ridge. It is typically found on rocky reefs, between 12 and 35 metres depth, but is observable from 1 to 12 metres at Hummock Point. In the shallower waters of its range, it can be seen in caves and at the bases of overhangs.[1]

Behaviour

Although rarely seen, Prognathodes dichrous is normally observed in pairs, but can also be found in large groups in deeper reefs.[1]
