Proclavarctus fragilis is a species of tardigrades in the genus Proclavarctus being the only one of the family family Halechiniscidae. The species are founded in the deep ocean floor inside the Indian Ocean.[1] Along with Clavarctus and Exoclavarctus both of them founded deep in the oceans, each with one species, the genus and the species were named by Jeanne Renaud-Mornant in 1983.[1] Its etymology of Proclaavarctus means the main key bear (from Greek and Latin pro- (before) and Clavarctus). The species literally means the fragile or gentle Proclavarctus.
