Despite the fact that the Kingdom of Hanover's Merit Medal (1846-1878) ceased being awarded before Prince George William was born (1880), there are photographs of him in Austria-Hungary K.u.K. uniform in 1900 and 1907 that show him wearing this medal behind Royal Guelphic Order and Order of Ernst August knight's crosses (in lieu of Grand Cross breast stars), over an Order of St. George breast star.
