Prima J is an American musical group, composed of cousins Jessica and Janelle Martinez. Jessica, born on 25 May 1988, and Janelle, born on 26 August 1988, came up with the stagename "Prima J" by taking the letter "J" out of their first names, and the Spanish word "prima" (meaning female cousin), and made a name out of it.

Career

Their self-titled debut album was released on the 27th of June in 2008. They made their debut in 2007 with the single "Rock Star" for the Bratz Motion Picture Soundtrack. The single "Rock Star" has over 20 million viewers on YouTube. They were discovered by former talent manager Bruce Johnson, who along with his business partner Jorge Hernandez introduced the girls to Stephanie Ridel.

Prima J also makes a brief appearance in Bratz, auditioning for the school talent show, and three of the stars of Bratz, Logan Browning, Janel Parrish, and Nathalia Ramos, appear in the "Rock Star" music video.

Prior to "Rockstar", they performed the song "Gotta Lotta" for the Disney Channel original movie, Jump In!, which was released on the film's soundtrack, and they also starred in Baby Bash's music video "What Is It". They recently made a cameo in the direct-to-DVD film Bring It On: Fight to the Finish the fifth installment of the Bring It On series.

Janelle and Jessica have reunited after an 8-year hiatus. Together they host a radio broadcast with Dash Radio. Per social media, they are working on new music and plan to release material in 2017.

Janelle and Jessica have released a single entitled "Ladies" on 10 March 2017. The single can be downloaded on Google Play and iTunes and streamed on Spotify.[1]
