Prasanna Jayakody (ප්‍රසන්න ජයකොඩි; born 25 August 1968), is an award winning Sri Lankan screenplay writer and filmmaker in Sri Lankan cinema.[2] Considered as one of the most creative filmmakers in Sri Lanka,[3][4] his films have been critically acclaimed and won several awards worldwide. His most notable films include 28 and Karma.[5][6]

Career

Prasanna Jayakody was born on 25 August 1968 in Horana. His father Jayasena Jayakody is a renowned novelist.[7] He completed his education from Taxila Central College, Horana. At the age of 17, he started his cinema career with the stage drama Seveneli Saha Minissu which was directed in 1993.[8] The film won the Award for the Best Stage Drama in 1993 at the State Drama Festival in Sri Lanka.[5]

Some of his television dramas include Nisala Vila and Imadiya Mankada.[7]

Filmography

His first film direction came through Sankara in 2007. The film won several award in both local and international award festivals.
