Potton & Burton, formerly Craig Potton Publishing, is a book publishing company based in Nelson, New Zealand. It claims to be the largest independent book publisher in New Zealand.

History

Potton & Burton was first established in 1987 as Craig Potton Publishing by conservationist Craig Potton, who initially founded it to publish books of his photography. It mostly publishes non-fiction works focused on New Zealand and photographic calendars.[1] Potton (born 1952) is a photographer, publisher, environmentalist and businessman and practices yoga, meditation, vegetarianism, and earnest conservationist. His father became rich setting up Zip Industries in New Zealand. Craig co-owns the multiplex cinema complex in Nelson, with his older brother, Richard.[2][3]

The company changed its name to Potton & Burton in March 2015 when Robbie Burton, managing editor and publisher since 1990, became co-owner with Craig Potton. As of 2015 it publishes more than 20 new titles per year, maintains a strong backlist of New Zealand books, and also publishes around 20 calendars annually.[1] Some of Potton & Burton's most notable publications have included the investigative journalist Nicky Hager's books Secret Power and Dirty Politics.[1][4]
