Port of Timișoara

The Port of Timișoara is located on the Bega Canal, and is the only one of Romania's 30 inland ports not located on the Danube River.[1]

In Timișoara, enter the Bega Canal Hydropower System-Bega Timișoara. Before leaving the city, on the left side of the channel, there is a large bay where the ships back into. The bay is clogged during the day.

History

The Port of Timișoara dates back to 1860. The port was originally the Iosefin District headquarters, located on the left bank of Bega, on the section located between the bridge walkways Labour and Gelu. The length of the shore where they could moor barges was 450 meters. The Iosefin water tower was located on the middle section to the right.[2] The building captains ranks where now stands the Palace Ancher.

Harbour Master was founded in 1928. After the Second World War, navigation to Bega was significantly reduced and the freight transport channel was eventually abandoned in 1960. Commercial and passenger ships were withdrawn seven years later.[3]
