Pontefract Academies Trust is a multi-academy trust in the historic northern town of Pontefract, England.[3][4] It is an exempt charity, regulated by the Department for Education[5] The trust comprises eight academies, including two secondary schools and six primary schools. The CEO is Julian Appleyard OBE.[6]


Primary Schools

The primary schools of the Trust consist of:

  • Orchard Head Junior Infant & Nursery School[9]
  • Carleton Park J&I School[10]
  • Rookeries Carleton Junior Infant & Nursery School[11]
  • Halfpenny Lane Junior Infant & Nursery School [12]

Secondary Schools

Carleton High School (CCHS)[13] is a coeducational secondary school with academy status, based in Pontefract, West Yorkshire, England. The headteacher was Mrs. Hellen Bolton until her resignation in July 2018.[14] The acting headteacher is Jo Cross, former assistant headteacher at Castleford Academy.[15]

The King’s School[16] is one of the oldest schools in Yorkshire. It was founded as a grammar school in 1548 by King Edward VI[4] and has a capacity of 1050 students.[17] The headteacher is Mrs. Elaine Briggs.
