Polsat is one of Poland's biggest television channels, founded on 5 December 1992 and owned by Zygmunt Solorz-Żak. It was the most watched television channel in Poland in 2016 with a market share of 11.45%.

Polsat belongs to the Polsat Group (WSE: CPS), which also owns other channels.

History

Polsat commenced transmissions on 5 December 1992. The channel broadcast via satellite. To circumvent licensing issues, it legally broadcast from Hilversum and imported programming had to come by plane.[2] In 1993, the channel got a legal license to operate terrestrially in Poland.

Polsat HD

The HD version of Polsat started in September 2009, and shares the same schedule with Polsat.
