Pickathon

Pickathon is a three-day music festival taking place every August at Pendarvis Farm in Happy Valley, near Portland, Oregon, United States. The event began in 1998 as a bluegrass festival and has since expanded to include folk and indie artists.[1]

Pickathon is known for promoting an ecologically aware, sustainable ethos. In 2011, it became the first large, outdoor music festival to ban single-use plates, cups, and utensils.[2] Some of the stages are built each year from local materials and set up in the forest on the farm's property, rather than in the large fields typical of most outdoor music festivals.[3]

Ticket sales are capped at 3,500 each year, the festival does not have corporate sponsors, and food is provided by local chefs and food carts.[2][3] In 2008, in order to increase revenue, festival founder Zale Schoenborn installed cameras at the site and packaged the performances as digital content.[1]
