Evolution Tower in Moscow

Philipp Nikandrov is a Russian architect (born 1968 in Leningrad). His expertise lie in large scale, complex projects of Mixed-Use and high-rise typology and urban planning. His design approach lies between contextualism and minimalism, with architectural metaphors derived from site context, history of the place and cultural background.

The most notable projects include the Evolution Tower in Moscow’s financial district and the Lakhta-Center Phase 1 in Saint-Petersburg, with a vertical dominant that currently holds the title of Europe’s tallest Skyscraper.

Philipp Nikandrov started his professional career in 1990 in Urban Planning Institute and later in architectural studio of Yuri Mitjurev. In 1997 he joined international company RMJM and served as senior designer, project architect and European Studio co-principal, working in the firm’s offices in UK, Middle East and later in Russia. In 2011 Philipp Nikandrov joined the leading Russian design company GORPROJECT as its chief architect, managing the architectural design of few high-rise projects in Moscow and Saint-Petersburg.

Work

As design team leader he participated in numerous international and regional design competitions. Most notable amongst his large-scale projects from competition to realization was Okhta Centre (2006-2010) and later Lakhta Centre (from 2011) - Gazprom Headquarters in Saint-Petersburg with 465m tower component, which construction ends in 2018 and will rank as Europe’s tallest skyscraper targeting LEED Gold certification for its achievements in sustainable design.

As project architect and chief designer Philipp Nikandrov has delivered the Moscow’s Evolution Tower from its earlier concept to completion (2004-2015).

Evolution Tower received international and national awards (second place in Emporis Skyscraper Awards in 2016, the featured finalist of 2015 CTBUH Best Tall Building Awards and finalist of MIPIM Award 2016, FIABCI 2018 Prix d'Excellence (gold for the best class A office building),etc).

Philipp Nikandrov is an author of high-profile publications and participant of architectural exhibitions and international conferences such as CTBUH, UNESCO World Heritage, Forum 100+, Skyscrapers Asia Summit 2017 in Singapore (as its chairman), etc.
