Phi Beta Rho Confraternity (ΦΒΡ) is a coeducational student organisation founded in 1962 in the University of the East, Philippines. Founders are people with common interest who started an organization out of nowhere bonded together to achieve a common mission- vision. This very first organization is called Mother (tree trunk). Organizer is a person/s who enlist membership into an existing organization in this case branching out from a tree trunk. ANALOGY: A tree has only one trunk with several branches (by Elmer Martin Fernandez UE Taurus Chapter).In the case of Phi Beta Rho, University of the East (UE) is the mother chapter that branched out to several chapters(branches) and each chapters had organizer/s.( You cannot be called founder if you're introducing an already existing organization.Thus you can be called organizer by: brother Elmer Martin Fernandez UE Taurus Chapter)
History
Phi Beta Rho Taurus Chapter (UE) was adopted on November (third week of the month), 1967 at the Central Luzon State University CLSU, Science City of Muñoz Nueva Ecija. Elmer Martin Fernandez (University of the East Student),The Fraternity that he helped organized in CLSU Muñoz, Nueva Ecija with Eduardo Dayrit Sr. , Pastor Reyes, Jr. , Fernando Tiburcio and all the Chartered Members in 1967. He brought the Constitution & By Laws of Phi Beta Rho from his alma mater UE to CLSU.
Political struggle
The fraternity was active in the First Quarter Storm, a period of political unrest in the Philippines, composed of a series of heavy demonstrations, protests, and marches against the government from January to March 1970. Members under the name Kapatirang Mag-Aaral ng Republika (KAMARA) participated in student demonstrations against growing social injustices, graft and corruption in the government.
Martial Law was declared on September 21, 1972 through Presidential Proclamation 1081, wherein it disbanded the fraternity and other political organizations. Many fraternity members active in the protest movement were arrested, while others were forced to relocate to their provinces and went underground to organize labor unions, farmers, and new school chapters mostly in Central Luzon.
Recognition
Following this period, the fraternity's primary objective was to be legally recognized by school administrations, and indulged themselves within the University Student Council, promoting the interest and protecting the rights of the students. They earned the reputation for being the principal leaders of their respective academe organizations, and were instrumental in the formation of the League of Filipino Students (LFS) in Region III.
