Phalera grotei, or Grote's buff-tip, is a moth of the family Notodontidae. The species was first described by Moore in 1859.[1] It is found in India, Sri Lanka,[2] China, Thailand, Korea, Hong Kong, Vietnam, Indonesia to Sumatra and Borneo.[3]

Description

The wingspan of the male is 74 mm and the female is 77 mm. Palpi upturned. Body dark brown, where the first two joints are clothed with hair. Third joint is short and naked. Antennae fasciculate in male, whereas ciliate in female. Head and thorax buff coloured. Abdomen brownish. Forewings are long, narrow with dark brown colour. Forewings with traces of waved dark lines. Orbicular and reniform spots indistinct. Forewings heavily suffused with silvery grey on the basal and inner areas. Apical patch paler. There is an indistinct waved submarginal black line. Hindwing fuscous.[4]
