Peter Zeihan (born January 18, 1973) is a geopolitical strategist who specializes in global energy, demographics and security. He analyzes the realities of geography and populations to deepen the understanding of how global politics impact markets and economic trends. He has been quoted in national and international media on a variety of geopolitical topics.[1][2][3][4]

Early life and education

Zeihan was born in 1973[5][6] and grew up in Iowa.[7] He attended the Patterson School of Diplomacy and International Commerce at the University of Kentucky.[8][9]

Career

In 2012 his consulting firm Zeihan on Geopolitics was founded to provide a select group of clients with direct, custom analytical products. Those clients include energy companies, financial institutions, business associations, agricultural interests, universities, and the U.S. military.

Zeihan authored his first book, The Accidental Superpower: The Next Generation of American Preeminence and the Coming Global Disorder,[10][11] in 2014, and his second in 2017 titled The Absent Superpower: The Shale Revolution and a World Without America.

In The Accidental Superpower, Zeihan devotes a chapter to arguing the Canadian province of Alberta would be better off joining the United States.[12]

Zeihan is also a keynote speaker who speaks on international economic, political, and cultural topics[13]
