Peter Paltchik (Hebrew: פיטר פלצ'יק; born 4 January 1992) is an Israeli judoka. He competes in the under 100 kg weight category, and won a bronze medal in the 2018 European Judo Championships.[1]

Biography

Paltchik was born in 1992 in Yalta, Ukraine. His father died of lung cancer when he was 6 months old and when he was 9 months old, he moved with his mother to Rishon LeZion, Israel. He began learning judo at age four.

On February 16, 2014, Paltchik won his first medal in an international competition when he won a bronze medal at the 'European Open Oberwart' after defeating Takeshi Sugahara of Japan.[2] On June 18, 2017, Paltchik won a gold medal at the 'Grand Prix Cancún' after defeating Benjamin Fletcher of Ireland in the final.[3] On October 28, he won a bronze medal at the 'Grand Slam Abu Dhabi'[4] and on April 1, 2018, he won a gold medal at the 'Grand Prix Tbilisi' after he defeated Merab Margiev of Russia by ippon in the final.[5]

On April 28, 2018, Paltchik competed in the European championships and won a bronze medal in the under 100 kg weight category. In the first round he defeated Jevgenijs Borodavko of Latvia by waza-ari, in the second round he defeated Bojan Dosen of Serbia by penalties. In the quarter finals he defeated Zelym Kotsoiev of Azerbaijan by waza-ari but lost in the semi finals to Cyrille Maret of France by ippon. Paltchik went on to the bronze medal match where he defeated Niiaz Bilalov of Russia by ippon after 39 seconds.[6]
