Peter Baumgartner is a Swiss businessman, the senior strategic advisor to the group CEO of Etihad Aviation Group, and was the chief executive (CEO) of Etihad Airways from May 2016 to December 2017.[1]

Early life

Baumgartner was born in Switzerland.[2]

Career

Baumgartner has previously held senior roles for Swissair, rising to general manager, relationship marketing and marketing development, before joining Etihad in 2005.

He was promoted to the role of Etihad chief operating officer (COO) in 2009[3], where he led the airline’s global commercial strategy and planning and oversaw global sales, marketing, guest experience and guest services, call centres, e-commerce and Etihad Holidays. In this role, he was also responsible for the airline's customer strategy and its frequent flyer program, Etihad Guest.

In 2016, Baumgartner was named CEO of Etihad[4], taking over the day-to-day operational running of the airline and covering commercial functions, including global sales, marketing, guest experience, network and revenue management, as well as strategy and planning.

Baumgartner is chairman of the board of directors of Hala Travel Management, vice-chairman of Darwin Airline, and chairman of Etihad Guest, topbonus, Alitalia Loyalty and Jet Privilege, the respective frequent flyer programs of Etihad, Air Berlin, Alitalia and Jet Airways.

Since July 2018, Baumgartner is senior strategic advisor to the group CEO of Etihad Aviation Group.[5]

Personal life

He is married, and a fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society.[6]
