Peter Aman is an American consultant and politician who was a candidate for mayor of Atlanta in the 2017 mayoral election.

Education

Aman graduated from Duke University with honors in 1988 with a bachelor's degree in public policy and history. He went on to attend the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania in 1994, where he earned a Master of Business Administration with distinction.[1]

Career

A former partner at the Atlanta office of the consulting firm Bain and Company, Aman worked pro bono for Shirley Franklin, the then-mayor of Atlanta, in the 2000s.[2] Initially signing up to do several months of work, Bain ended up giving the city three years of Aman's time.[3] As part of this stint, he led the team that wrote the "Bain Report," in which he and his teammates recommended that Franklin and the Atlanta City Council implement certain policy changes, such as creating a realistic budget. Franklin's successor as mayor, Kasim Reed, chose Aman to be the Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the city of Atlanta initially for a year, later extending his tenure as COO to two years.[4][2] In 2011, he left his job as Atlanta's COO to resume working at Bain;[5] he retired from the firm in June 2016 so that he could focus on running for mayor.[6]

Aman has served on the board of the Metro Atlanta Chamber of Commerce, the Atlanta Committee for Progress, the Atlanta Police Foundation, and The Galloway School.[6]

2017 Atlanta mayoral campaign

Aman officially entered the race on April 21, 2016.[6] He started the race polling at 1.8%, within the poll's margin of error, in March 2017.[7] As of October 7, 2017, he was polling at 12.6%, placing him in third place, 9.5 points behind the front-runner Mary Norwood, and 6.3 points ahead of fourth place, Cathy Woolard.[8]
