Peacehaven Community School is a mixed secondary school for 11- to 16-year-olds located in Peacehaven, East Sussex.

The school was opened in 2001 following a 40-year campaign by the local community for a secondary school in Peacehaven. The (Acting) Headteacher is Mr Austen Hindman.

Peacehaven Community School (PCS) is smaller than most secondary schools. It has previously gained specialist status for science and mathematics as well as Healthy Schools, Sportsmark and Artsmark awards.

It is a foundation school administered by East Sussex County Council and the Peacehaven Co-operative Learning Trust. However governance of the school is currently being undertaken by an Interim Executive Board.[1]

Inspections & Performance

The school has been inspected by Ofsted twice in recent years, both in 2013[2] and, more recently, 2016. For both inspections, the school was awarded a grade 3 or 'unsatisfactory' mark overall,[3] despite previously being a 'good' school.[4] This is reflected in the latest exam results, released in August 2016, which show only 38% of students achieving 5 A*-C GCSEs (or equivalent) inc. English and maths[5] compared to the 53% national average. This is 4 points down on the previous year from 42%, despite local authority intervention in the governance of the school and the guidance of the SWALE Academies Trust.[6]

The school is currently undergoing rigorous change in light of current poor GCSE results.
