Pavel Artemyevich Plotnikov (Russian: Па́вел Арте́мьевич Пло́тников; 4 March 1920 – 14 December 2000) was a prolific Soviet bomber pilot and double Hero of the Soviet Union. After the second World War II, Plotnikov continued his Air Force career and rose to the rank of Major General and retired in 1975.[1]

Pavel Plotnikov was born on March 4, 1920 in Barnaul, Altai Krai.[2] In 1938, he volunteered in the Soviet Air Forces and finished 1940 the Military Air School at Novosibirsk. He joined the 82nd Guards Bombardment Regiment of 5th Air Force in the 2nd Ukrainian Front. Plotnikov was awarded the Hero of the Soviet Union on August 19, 1944 with the completion of his 225nd mission and the scoring of his 3rd claimed aerial victory. He was promoted to senior lieutenant and given command of 81st Guards Bombardment Regiment of 2nd Air Force, in the 1st Ukrainian Front.[3]

Poltnikow has flown 343 mission, scored three claimed aerial victories, sank six transport vessels, seven freight train transports, destroyed three railroad bridges and claimed about 250 enemy vehicles during his operational objectives in the territories of the Steppe Front and Black Sea Region.[4]

After the second World War II, Plotnikov rose to the rank of Major General and retired in 1975. He died on 14 December 2000 and was buried on the Ivankovskoe cemetery, in Moscow.
