Paul Williams White is an English record producer, vocalist, and multi-instrumentalist from Lewisham, London.[1]

Career

Paul White's instrumental debut, The Strange Dreams of Paul White, received notable reviews, e.g. from The Telegraph[2] and The Quietus.[3] The 2011 album, Rapping with Paul White, featuring several guest vocalists, received praise from Resident Advisor[4] but was met with mixed feelings by Pitchfork.[5] White's 2014 album, Shaker Notes, included more live instrumentation and White's own vocals, and was released by notable electronic label R&S Records.[6] to positive reviews.[7]

In September 2014, White announced he had formed a new group called Golden Rules with Florida vocalist Eric Biddines.[8] Golden Rules' debut album, Golden Ticket, was released the next year on Lex Records, and features a rare appearance from Yasiin Bey. It has an 82% score on Metacritic.[9] In 2016, he released a full-length collaboration with Open Mike Eagle called Hella Personal Film Festival[10] to positive reviews[11] including Spin's "Album of the Week".[12]

Paul White is known for his production work for Detroit artist Danny Brown. White produced three songs on Brown's 2011 album XXX, five on 2013 album Old and ten on 2016's Atrocity Exhibition. All three albums received critical acclaim.[13][14][15] Brown also contributed tracks to White's Rapping with Paul White album, 2013 Watch the Ants EP,[16] and the 2017 Accelerator EP.[17] Brown has described White as his "fav producer to work with". In June 2016, Danny Brown released the first single from his new album, "When It Rain", produced by Paul White. Pitchfork awarded it "Best New Music" and described the production as "immaculate".[18]

Other notable productions include the 2014 White Sands EP in collaboration with New York rapper Homeboy Sandman for Stones Throw Records.[19] and "Thunder" on Jamie Woon's 2015 album, Making Time,[20] which was nominated for the 2016 Mercury Prize.[21]
