Patrick Charles Karney (born September 1948)[1] is a Labour Party local councillor for the ward of Harpurhey, and Secretary of the Manchester Labour Party. Having been a councillor since 1979, his current term in Harpurhey ends in 2019.[2]
Early life
He was born in Dublin and came to Manchester as a child.[3]
Committees
He serves on the Constitutional and Nomination committee (Chair) and the Resources and Governance Scrutiny committee[2] and also has responsibilities for the city centre. He is the NHS Director of Tobacco Free Greater Manchester. He is the secretary of Manchester Labour.
Views
During the night of the August 2011 riots reaching Manchester, Karney witnessed[4] and spoke at a GMP press conference, saying that the violence marked "one of the worst days that Manchester has ever seen"[5]
