Patiya Aadorsho Uccho Bidyaloy (Patiya Model High School) is one of the oldest schools of Bangladesh. It was established in 1845 as an English Medium School by the founder Mr. Durga Kinkor Datta. The school was affiliated with the Calcutta University in 1867. Now it is affiliated under Board of Intermediary and Secondary Education, Chittagong , Bangladesh.[1]
History
Patiya Model High School was established in 1845,[2] first as a primary school, by Durgacharan Dutta in the village of Bhurshi under Patiya Upazila. Very soon, it was upgraded to a secondary school and with financial assistance provided by landlord Mir Yahia, it was converted to a junior English school, of which Durgacharan Dutta was the first headmaster. In 1859, it became a high English school and the first batch of students from the school appeared at the Entrance examinations in 1867.
The first headmaster of the Patiya High English School was Rasikchandra Chattopadhyay. Suryakumar was the headmaster from 1907 and 1935.
Once female students were allowed to study in the school in limited numbers but now only male students are allowed to enroll.
The school has a library having some rare collections. There are three two-storied buildings in the school campus apart from a playground and two ponds. The school is located a quarter mile from the Patiya Police Station.
Late Mohammad Abul Kashem, who later took the responsibility of the school as its headmaster, brought significant changes in the school both in the educational system and infrastructural development.
Mohammad Abul Kasem became the Headmaster of Patiya Model High School as the successor of 'Surya Sen and Ramesh Chandra Gupta' in 1976. He went on retirement in 1991 after carrying out responsibilities as the Head Master for 16 years. Earlier he joined the PC Sen Sarwatali High School as an Assistant Teacher, then obtained an MA degree in English from the University of Chittagong in 1968. He was a reciter-cum-dramatist. He was Head Examiner of English under the Comilla Board for more than three years. He wrote textbooks including `A Standard English Grammar, Translation, and Composition'.
The school now has eighteen teachers and more than 6000 books are available in the school library. Some rare books were stolen during the liberation war and some books were damaged due to lack of proper care.

Notable alumni
- Munshi Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad passed the Entrance from this school in 1893. He was the first Muslim student to pass the Entrance in Patiya. He had been offered "sahitya Bisharad" by the society of Literarians of Chittagong and "Sahitya Sagar" by the scholars of Nadiya. He recovered more than two thousand and five hundred Punthi (collection of mythological literature) and published more than six hundred research article. He has been in final rest in Suchakradandi - his own village.
- Uma Charan Khastagir passed entrance in 1867. He had been the sub-judge in the judicial sector.
- Dr. Ataul Hakim had been a student of this school since 1907 to 1908 in class VII and VIII. He was the first Muslim to obtain a Ph.D. in Chittagong. He was a mathematician and classmate of politician Hossain Shahid Sohrawardy.
- Dr. Ahmad Sharif is a scholar of Bangla literature. He was the nephew of Munshi Abdul Karim Shahitya Bisharad. He passed entrance from the school in 1938. He carried out research on the collected 'Punthi' by Munshi Abdul Karim Shahitya Bisharad.
- Bipin Bihari Nandi passed entrance in 1890. He was awarded 'Krittibas' for his 'Soptokando Rajsthan'.
- Sharat Chandra Das was the diplomat in Peking appointed by the then British Government. He was an expert on Tibet. He was the first to bring the press machine to Chittagong.
- Shashanko Mohan Sen was 'Kobi Bhashkor'. He passed entrance in 1901.
- Kali Shankar Chakraborty was founder editor of the daily 'Jyoti', the first newspaper in East Bengal.
- Karunamoy Khastogir passed entrance in 1905, he was a professor of Mathematics in Calcutta University.
- Shashidhar Dashgupta passed entrance in 1912. He was awarded Roy Bahadur and he had been the deputy magistrate.
- Ahmad Mia passed entrance in 1916. He was additional District Magistrate and Inspector General of Police.
- Prof. Kamini Kumar Dev passed entrance in 1919. He was a mathematician and Professor of Calcutta Presidency College.
- Khan Bahadur Jalal Uddin Ahmad passed entrance in 1904. He was an orator and politician. He was a minister of the then undivided Bangla Government. He was a professor of Calcutta University and an expert in languages.
- Jatra Mohan Sen was a 'Jamidar' of Baroma and the father of Barrister Jatindra Mohan Sen, the then president of Indian Congress
- Golamur Rahman passed entrance in 1916. He was Assistant Commissioner of Tax.
- Manindra Lal Guha passed entrance from this school in 1926. He was the companion to Masterda Surya Sen.
- Himangshu Bikash Mazumder was the Deputy Director of Mass Education Department of the West Bengal Government.
- Harendra Lal Chowdhury passed entrance in 1918. He was an expert on English Literature. He was a professor and colleague of Netajee Shuvash Chandra Bose.
