Pathan is a synonym commonly used in South Asia to refer to the Pashtun people, the largest and second largest ethnic group in Pakistan and Afghanistan respectively. Pathan is referred to people claiming Pashtun ancestry and who have assimilated with Urdu speaking people. It may also refer to the following communities:
