Panthera shawi is an extinct prehistoric cat. The first fossil was found at the Laetoli site in Tanzania, and is thought to be approximately 3.5 million years old.[1] Is believed to be the oldest known species of lion.[2]
Description
P. shawi was small compared to modern lions with a typical weight of 260 pounds (120 kg) for males and 200 pounds (91 kg) for females.[1][2][3]
