Panos H. Koutras (Greek: Πάνος Κούτρας; born in Athens) is a Greek filmmaker, writer, who made his debut with the feature film The Attack of the Giant Moussaka (1999), a science-fiction parody.[1] He has directed three more films Alithini Zoi (2004) and Strella (2009).[2]

He studied filmmaking at the London International Film School. He also studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. When he was studying in London and Paris he submitted several short films to film festivals including the London Film Festival. At the Festival du Cinema, Mediterraneen he won first prize in 1991 for the short film The Fall and Rise of Lydia Von Burer.[3]

He was selected to be on the jury for the Un Certain Regard section of the 2015 Cannes Film Festival.[4]

In an interview in the French newspaper Libération, he mentioned that he is LGBT activist and leftist artist. He added that his works are shaped by writers such as Proust and Wilde, and by filmmakers such as Fassbinder and Visconti, noting that their works should be looked in their homosexual dimension. In the same interview, he highlighted the racism and hypocrisy prevailing in Greek society.[5]
