Pablo is a British children's television series that premiered on CBeebies on 2 October 2017. It was created by Grainne McGuinness. The series deals with the adventures of Pablo, a five year old boy with autism, and his imaginary anthropomorphized animal friends, the Book Animals, who go on adventures in Pablo's 'Art World'.[1][2] It is a hybrid of live action and 2D animation.
Format
A typical episode will begin in the real world, where Pablo will be engaging in some sort of activity. When encountering a problem or something he doesn't understand (like the loss of his own smell following a bath), the episode will transition into an animated 'art world', represented by Pablo's drawings. There, Pablo and the Book Animals will work together to solve whatever problem is at hand.
Characters
- Pablo (voiced by Jake Williamson): The titular protagonist. Williamson himself has autism.
- Mouse (voiced by Rachael Dickson): Mouse is very reliable and organized, but she's also very sensitive to sounds and smells. She talks in the third person.
- Noasaurus (voiced by Tony Finnegan): Noasaurus is very kind and gentle, good at maths, but can get nervous and clumsy.
- Tang (voiced by Michael White): Tang is the big fun goofball of the group, always ready to do anything, but has problems reading social cues and isn't always very careful.
- Wren (voiced by Sumita Majumdar): Wren is very energetic, but can have difficulty staying focused and flaps her wings a lot for comfort.
- Llama (voiced by Rosie King): Llama is sweet and curious but has echolalia, meaning she repeats things that people say, as does Pablo in the real world.
- Draff (voiced by Scott Mulligan): The smartest of the group, Draff is highly intelligent and precise. His most commonly used phrase is ‘in point of fact’, as he loves explaining things.[3][4]
