POBAL

POBAL are the umberalla organisation for the Irish language movement in Northern Ireland. They were established in 1998 and are funded by the UK Department for Social Development and Belfast City Council.[1] They have campaigned strongly since their inception on the need as they see it for an Irish Language Act to be enacted for Northern Ireland that is similar to language acts in the Republic of Ireland, Wales and Scotland.[2][3][4] Their director is Janet Muller who has been in the position since they were founded.
