P. N. Vinayachandran is a Professor of Oceanography at the Centre for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences(CAOS), Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India.

Biography

Vinayachandran was born in Meladoor, Thrissur. He did his B.Sc in Physics from Christ College, Irinjalakuda , M.Sc. (Oceanography) from Cochin University of Science and Technology, and M.Sc.(Engg.) in Atmospheric Sciences from Indian Institute of Science. He received his Doctorate Degree in Oceanography in 1996 from Indian Institute of Science.

He started his research career at National Institute of Oceanography, Goa. After obtaining his Ph.D. from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore he did his post-doctoral research at University of Tokyo. He worked as a senior researcher at Frontier Research System For Global Change and then moved as a faculty member at Center for Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

He is the recipient of the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Award in 2008.[1]. He is a fellow of the Indian Academy of Sciences and National Academy of Sciences, India and recipient of J C Bose National Fellowship and National Award in the field of Ocean Science & Technology for the year 2017.
