Předmostí 3

Cast of Předmostí 3

Předmostí 3 was a Upper Paleolithic, Homo Spiens skull find from central Europe in the Czech republic, and is geologically dated as Late Pleistocene.

Description

It was found in Předmostí, Moravia, and dated to 26,000 B.P.[1] (25,000 years (ka)[2]) 30,000 B.P.,[3] ( 30,000-12,000 B.P.[4])[5] and has a cranial capacity of 1580 cubic centimetres (Holloway 2000;Holloway et al 2004)[6]

Fate

The skull was destroyed in 1945 in the Second World War as retreating German troops set fire to Mikulov Castle where the remains were stored.[7][8]

Analysis

In a morphometric analysis including Predmost3 (with five differing hominid skull finds) of variables in cranium dimensions [cranio-facial traits] compared to Homo sapiens sapiens Predmost three was found to correlate to a 73% similarity.(Lubson,Corruccini)[9]

The skull belongs to a morphological Upper Palaeolithic group that is including Grotte des Enfants 4, Barma Grande 5 and Pavlov 1 and Sunghir 1.[11] Predmosti 3 had retromolar space.[12] Predmosti 3 skull is similar to Middle Paleolithic, Skhul IV skull from Levant.[13]
