"Overcome" is a song written and performed by Creed. At the time of its release, it was their first single since 2002, and also the first from their 2009 reunion album, Full Circle. To date, it's their 11th song to reach the top 5 on the Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.[1] The single was released digitally on August 25, 2009.

The radio world premiere of the full song took place on August 18, 2009 at 5:13 pm PDT on alternative rock station KCXX in San Bernardino, California.

"Overcome" was said to be written in reference to an event where rapper T.I. had saved Creed lead singer Scott Stapp from committing suicide but Stapp said in Loudwire's Wikipedia: Fact or Fiction interview that it was actually about his desire to overcome the struggles and the demons that he had been fighting for many years.[2]

Reception

Since the song's release on radio, "Overcome" has received positive reviews from radio disc jockeys and fans. It is notable for being one of Creed's much heavier singles. On the day it was digitally released, it reached number 3 on the iTunes Top 100 Rock Songs. It has since reached number 2. It also debuted at number 18 at Billboard's Hot Mainstream Rock Tracks chart, and has since reached number 4 on the list, and number 73 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Music video

The music video was shot at their August 18 concert at the Comcast Center in Mansfield, Massachusetts and premiered on Tuesday, September 15, 2009 on Yahoo Music, one day earlier than expected. It is only the second non-conceptual Creed video (the first being "Higher") and contains not only live footage but also candid shots of the band backstage.[3]
