Osmanthus cake

Osmanthus cake is a traditional sweet-scented Chinese pastry made with glutinous rice flour, honey sweet-scented osmanthus and rock sugar.[1][2] It has crystal clear, sweet and soft waxy characteristics.

Characteristics of food

The appearance of the jelly is opaque and slightly translucent. The taste is often described as sweet (but not too much). It is a popular snack sold at street-vendors in Taiwan.

Food culture

According to legend, sweet-scented osmanthus cake originated in China more than 300 years ago. It is said that a scholar Yang Sheng'an, went to the moon to break the laurel in a dream,and take the sweet-scented osmanthus back to Earth. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, Xianning hawker Liu Jixiang in Yang Shengan Osmanthus fragrance of the den to be inspired to collect fresh osmanthus to produce the sweet-scented osmanthus cake - which required a complicated process.

In the Kongmao the "Kongfu house anecdote", referring to the "Qianlong emperor granted hole Guihua cakes", the sweet-scented osmanthus cake becomes a valuable pastry.
