Open Space is a rock band from Minsk, Belarus comprising Vitaly Matievsky (lead vocals, guitar), Maxim Mestovsky (lead guitar, backing vocals, occasional harp), Seva Maslov (bass) and Andrei Malashenko (drums, percussion). Open Space have recorded their first demo EP "Wake Up" in summer 2007.

History

Band's history dates back to January 2006 when Seva Maslov and Vitaly Matievsky first met. They had one thing in common – they wanted to start a rock band. By that time both had some music training and Seva played in a few local bands before. The band's first rehearsal on 12 March 2006 became the date of the band's birth, but it was only after Maxim Mestovsky (guitar) and Andrei Malashenko (drums) became part of the band, when Open Space was complete. Maxim joined the band after second rehearsal and Andrei came in September 2006, when Open Space decided to replace their previous drummer. Andrei was already a local music scene veteran, as he played in popular Belarusian bands Indiga, Papenkinz Band, Leprikonsi, L.I.P, Po Glazam, Impat.

In June 2007 Open Space have recorded their first demo EP-disk "Wake Up". The presentation of an album has taken place in the Minsk "Graffity" club on September 13. All tickets have been sold out in a few hours. With the growing popularity Open Space made a tour across Belarus and Russia. Soon songs 'In My Head', 'Today', 'Song of the Seaman' and 'Wake Up' from their first EP became very popular and are still broadcast at prime time on most popular Belarusian radiostations.

During 2008 Open Space played concerts with popular Russian, Ukrainian and international bands: Morandi, Segodnyanochyu, Multfilmy, Sergei Babkin (former of 5'nizza), Singleton, Hair Peace Salon[1][2][3][4][5][6][7] and Bi-2.[8]

In April 2008 Open Space released their new EP album "Beautiful", which consisted of 5 songs recorded at Maple Tree studio in Minsk, Belarus. Open Space celebrated the release of their new single “Beautiful" with a big sold-out show in Minsk "Bronx" club on April 25.[9] After what band had a lot of gigs in Belarus, Ukraine and Russia.

In the fall of 2008 Open Space released their debut video for the song "Beautiful". On November, 23rd the video was broadcast nationwide for the first time.[10]

In February 2009 the band have been nominated as "Best New Artist" at the annual "Rock Coronation 2008" awards in Belarus, but they didn't get the main prize.[11] But already in May 2010 they get award on Rock Coronation 2009" as "Best Pop-rock band".[12]

On January 21, 2010 Open Space have released their first long-playing album "Deal With Silence" on the local label "WestRecords".[13] Also in 2010 band played on main stages at popular Be2gether and Basovišča music festivals with Skunk Anansie, Empire Of The Sun, Rubl, Alina Orlova, Haydamaky, Lyapis Trubetskoy, Lipali, Rima and others.[14][15]

On December 1, 2010 Open Space have released their third EP "Let It Go" consisted of 4 songs, which will appear on their new long-playing album in autumn 2011.
